Guest Book Registration Bug
I realized today that since adding the email notifications, new users have been unable to activate their guest books. Sorry for any inconvenience, the problem has been fixed and all users who registered during that period have had their guest books activated.

Anti-Spam update
As I'm sure many of you have noticed, there has been a major increase in the spam in both the forums and the comments of news articles over the last few months. All of that has now been cleared out and new security measures have been added, hopefully preventing any spam in the future. The forums will be disabled for one more week to ensure the spam problem has been taken care of.

On another note, a bug has been fixed in the user registration to disallow spaces in user names. This was causing errors when trying to activate the guestbook.

Guest book Email Notifications
The guest book tool now has the option to send you and email notification when someone writes in your guest book.
As always, let me know if anyone experiences any problems with this, and thanks for the idea, Don.

Back to work
First off, sorry about the lack of support over the past month, I've been away on TDY with the Air Force.
Anyways, now that I'm back, everything is getting a CAPTCHA. The guestbooks and news comments are now the target of spam so I am in the process of adding a CAPTCHA to the guestbooks right now. Users may experience down time over the next hour while I get it up and running.

Recent Updates
The guestbook tool has been updated to day fixing issues with displaying smileys as well as fixing a problem that caused new posts not to properly display in the admin control panel.
The next version of the tagboard will also be released soon, there is one more section that is being worked on before it is released.

Tagboard Captcha
Shear Development is not even one month old and spam bots have already found it.. So to prevent all the spam that I have been deleting from the tagboard over the last week, I made and added a basic captcha. Hopefully it will keep the spam bots away. If it works well I will add it in the next release of the tagboard as an optional feature.

Future Tagboard Updates
As I have tried to stress, I like feedback and I try to make everything here fit the users wants and needs.
It seems at least one user was looking for an automatically refreshing tag board when users post, more like a live chat, so coming in the near future will be a new version of both the mySQL and flat file tag board including this feature.Leave some more feedback on this idea as well as anything else you would like to see in the new version.

File Based Tagboard
A version of the tagboard that stores entries in a file instead of a mySQL database has been released.

It still offers all the same features as the original, but is potentially easier to setup, and obviously doesn't require configuring mySQL databases and options.

Welcome to Shear Development
It's 8:00 PM on February 21st and Shear Development is officially up and running. As of now there is only one script available for download, and one tool available for use however more are currently being developed.

A bit about Shear Development:
It's all about PHP development. Whether you have your own free website and use tools linked from ShearDev.net, or you install the scripts on your own page, Shear Development is here to give you quality scripts without advertisements.

Why?
Because ad's suck. Plain and simple, no one wants ads cluttering up their website.

Hopefully Shear Development will grow and offer many more things in the future. If you like what you see here, spread the word!
